I’ve been stretching the truth ever since I was a kid. It seems only natural that I’d want to become a writer. But after a few years of studying the craft, I discovered the power of fiction hidden beneath all the clever language and colorful characters: fiction is merely the truth in disguise.
From this discovery I’ve come to understand that the magic of good writing resides in its ability to maintain the illusion of a lie while revealing the truth in measured doses.
That is why I am drawn to horror fiction.
While some horror exists merely to shock or disgust, the real horror stories – the ones we remember – are the stories that unveil the lies we tell ourselves: I could never kill anyone…she would never hurt me…things will never change…I will live forever…
I continue to read and write in the horror genre because I believe there are uncomfortable realities in this world that deserve to be illuminated so that ignorant people (such as myself) can understand something of the real-life hardships expereienced by thousands everyday.
I enjoy the work of Josh Malerman, Robert Mccammon, Peter Straub, Richard Matheson, Josh Malerman, Joe Hill, Sofia Samatar, Dan Simmons, and of course, Stephen King.
I live in Southern California with my wife, my son, and a new baby on the way…
